All around, the night of Shanghai lies in silence, as if holding its breath.

I took this photograph on impulse, without even asking myself why.

It felt as though something else had decided for me.

Only when the shutter broke the dense, almost tangible silence of Shanghai’s night did I realize the image had already happened.
